The CafeTin micro-mill is not a large commercial grower, but a group of 25 small family farms. Its coffee is from the small mountain town of San Martin de Leon Cortez in the famed Costa Rican Tarrazu growing region. We mill coffee from a single valley at 1700m to 1950m above sea level, very high for coffee in this area.
At such high altitudes the cool mists that cover the mountain tops produce low yields and cause the coffee fruit to mature slower.
For years, the growers in San Martin knew they produced an excellent coffee but could only sell it to large mills that mixed coffee from all over. Until a coffee loving former Peace Corps volunteer, who had lived and worked in the village, decided to help. The areas micro-climate and slow growing trees have a denser bean that produces an extrodinary coffee, balanced but with intense flavor and aroma. CafeTin now brings it to you. Cafetin is just in its 2nd year but its coffee is quickly gaining fame and better incomes for its producers. |
